How to Remove Red Wine from Carpet
We've all been there – a dinner party, a relaxing evening, and suddenly... splash! Red wine on the carpet. Don't panic. As professional carpet cleaners with over 20 years of experience, we're here to share our expert tips for removing red wine stains from carpet.
⏰ Time Is Critical!
The faster you act, the better your chances of complete removal. Fresh red wine stains are much easier to remove than dried ones.
Step-by-Step: Remove Red Wine from Carpet
Step 1: Blot Immediately (Don't Rub!)
Grab a clean white cloth or paper towels and BLOT the stain. Start from the outside and work inward to prevent spreading. Never rub – this pushes the wine deeper into carpet fibers.
Step 2: Dilute with Cold Water
Pour a small amount of cold water directly on the stain. This dilutes the wine and makes it easier to blot out. Continue blotting with a fresh cloth.
Step 3: Apply Salt or Baking Soda
While the stain is still wet, cover it generously with salt or baking soda. These absorb the wine. Let it sit for a few minutes, then vacuum it up.
Step 4: Use a Cleaning Solution
Mix 1 tablespoon of dish soap + 1 tablespoon of white vinegar + 2 cups of warm water. Apply to the stain and blot. For stubborn stains, try mixing dish soap with hydrogen peroxide (test in an inconspicuous area first!).
Step 5: Rinse and Dry
Rinse the area with cold water and blot dry. Place a clean towel over the area and weigh it down to absorb remaining moisture.
⚠️ What NOT to Do
- Don't use hot water – Heat sets wine stains permanently
- Don't rub the stain – This spreads it and damages fibers
- Don't use bleach – It can discolor your carpet
- Don't wait – Dried stains are much harder to remove
